Howard Potter started his career 32 years ago in the Hull team of Royal Insurance in the Underwriting Room of the old ILU Building, followed by a stint in Marine Claims in Manchester and underwriting in the Birmingham market. He moved to CNA in 2000 where he remained for 17 years working progressively as Branch Manager, Marine Manager for Canada in Toronto, UK Marine Manager back in London, European Cargo Director, and finally Head of Cargo and Specie for CNA Hardy after the company purchased the Lloyd’s syndicate. He moved back to his company roots in 2017 (by then renamed RSA) as Group Marine Product Director. In 2020 he helped with the establishment of a new MGA in the Marine Cyber space, Astaara Underwriting, working as their CUO. Most recently he joined Aviva in August 2023 as Head of Marine and leads a team of over 30 cargo underwriters in London and around the UK.
